Already beyond obsessed with ABC Family's Greek (let's just say it's my sorority past on steroids, with much hotter boys, and more interesting drama), and despite its' cheeziness I still admit to catching episodes of the Secret Life of the American Teenager (Molly Ringwald's in it, c'mon), I was pretty stoked when E!'s own TV reviewer Kristin Dos Santo's named a new show on ABC Family, Pretty Little Liars, one of the must-watch shows of the summer (I mean, if a REAL TV reviewer tells the ENTIRE television audience--I suppose mostly female since it WAS on E!--, and not just the subset of tweenage girls, to watch a show on ABC Family, it must actually be good right?!).
Obviously I took her recommendation to heart, though I probably would have watched it anyway given my current state of couch-potato-ness, and so far (post episode 4) I have to say that I am liking it a lot. The plot centers on 4 friends (high schoolers played by people in their twenties...as usual) one year following the mysterious death of their ring-leader friend, Alison. Around the time her body is finally discovered, they begin to receive text messages from "beyond the grave" from someone named "A". This person knows secrets that only Alison knew about them and pretty much stalks them to the point of knowing EVERYTHING going on in their lives secretly at this moment (this includes one girl hooking up with her big sister's fiancee, another dating her incredibly hot, incredibly young, teacher, another experimenting and dating a girl, and, last but not least, a girl who is shoplifting and incredibly insecure despite her newfound popularity (she's the new queen bee)....we are talking BIG/Serious/Fabulously interesting to watch unfold and not be involved in secrets here people). This show keeps you constantly intrigued (in a..."at least this isn't some crazy person ruining my life, but man do girls have a lot of drama and secrets that are amusing from the outside in all of their insanity"....sort of way) and asking WHO THE EFF IS A??! OK, so I will admit that I read the plot summary of the teen novels the show is based on using Wikipedia and I already discovered this answer (which probably will not come out until like the series finale), but, despite my 8-ball knowledge, this is a pretty creative story that seems to have lots of ways to turn...and I have not been (nor do I actually think I will ever be) bored watching the story unfold knowing the ultimate outcome. While this show probably falls in my Gossip Girl category of reoccurring television obsessions, I suggest you check it out. I mean, beyond Top Chef D.C. and the occasional Real Housewives of the tri-state area, WTF else is there to watch in the summer anyway?!?!

I've been digging it too. Just trying to avoid Wikipedia now though!
ReplyDeleteHave you watched the Vampire Diaries at all? It may be my favorite tv series based off a book series, but Gossip Girl may make a come back this year.
I've never seen it...but, to be honest, I ran away from all things vampire. I don't really dig the twilight madness so I protested the rest...even though I know people are obsessed with true blood and the vampire diaries
ReplyDeleteI agree with the over saturation of vampires, but the guy who does Vampire Diaries did Dawson's Creek, so it's going to be awesome. It's all dark and broody and teen angsty. It's excellent. :)
