The Token...White Guy

Even though our economy sucks, and China is basically buying us out of debt (and some may say they "own us" in a way), companies in China are "renting" white guys to act like investors/high ranking employees to make their companies hold more clout (see just what these actors do, and how much they make doing it (about $300), by watching this video: http://www.cnn.com/2010/BUSINESS/06/29/china.rent.white.people/index.html). Apparently, it is a big P.R. move to be viewed by others as "associating with, partnering with, or employing foreigners", or men who are white and actually speak NO Chinese (and appear as if they "just arrived"). I remember a friend once telling me about how he was asked to attend and be photographed at a wedding when he was in Africa for the same reasons (white person at your wedding=you must be an important person), but, getting paid to just sit there and look...white?!...well, that is a new way for the Chinese to help boost our economy. Therefore, while here in the U.S. these men are just out of work actors or models, who may look pretty, but are frankly pretty low on the totem pole, in China, the dumb white guy who memorizes a script and recites it= increased prestige=more money and connections. Fabulous....You can have'em. Maybe this is what Madonna meant when she said "Rita Hayworth gave good face"....
