I spent MLK day snowtubing in BumbleF-K PA, on Liberty Mountain. This place was so in the middle of nowhere that we saw churches bigger than the towns, cows, no grocery stores, and "colleges" with basically no campus nearby. The last time I went snowtubing I was in SteamBoat Colorado on likely the best vacation I have had in my "adult" life. Not only did this adventure occur post hours of 3 man, and lots of blue moons, but it ended in me making a new friend, with no teeth, who helped me get my tube down the hill faster. Yes, this beer blanket made life easier in the bitter cold of Colorado, and certainly made carrying the tube up the broken snowtube lift "doable". But, it also made racing and snow tubing unbelievably fun. This snowtube trip was the icing on a cake of an amazing New Years vacation filled with new friends, ski lessons, blizzards, falling off the mountain, riding the ski lift...down, and plenty of bruises. Clearly, hard to top, snowtubing is now a nostalgic activity in my life.
Enter fake snow, a working lift, no blue moon, a day trip, over 50 degree weather.....and slightly less steep trails....and MLK snowtubing was a whole new bag. I have a small attention span and should have known that I could not handle tubing for 2 hours, but I was tempted by the only 4 dollar increase for the second hour. This pricing is definitely a ploy that I am sure allows the mountain to RACK IT UP. Tubing itself is always fun. I learned that 2 people are faster than one, heavy people are faster than little people, and my balance SUCKS. I not only fell trying to move my tube back to the line...twice...but I almost fell multiple times standing on the little moving lift (its almost like falling on an inclined airport moving walkway). Sure, I was thankful for this lift working after the last time involved lugging the tubes up the mountain, but I definitely did not need sticky hands creeper man with a beard trying to help all the females onto the lift by touching them uncomfortably. Oh, and then there was a guy that I will call RICO SUAAAAAVE, I had NO clue what he was saying half the time, but boy did he like pushing people down the mountain and the spin move. I missed out on his teacups-like ride down the hill, but thanks to him...I can't seem to get Livin La Vida Loca out of my head.
All in all, snowtubing is a good time with or without a little pre-tubing fun. Thanks to my friends and their fun ideas for things to do...my life just keeps getting a little more...random.
