I do not get this group of nerdy high school/freshman in college guys. When I was leaving the gym this evening I bumped into them buying tickets from a scalper to the Wizards Game. What is the deal with the different weird hats (one of them has like this silk Buddhist prayer cap and another that you can't even really see in these photos has one of those hunting hats with the ear flaps but he tied it under his neck) ? Are they in some awkward new version of the Village People, or is that how you get on TV at Wizards games (cough cough friend who was an intern there)? I know (well actually think) their look, complete with the vests and jackets, is not trendy fashion and I can only hope this is not their usual attire.
My favorite guy was the rebel of the group, the odd man out of the four, who was wearing a hoodie and jeans (no crazy ensemble), and a little Justin Timberlake like fedora (the most normal hat). He definitely toned down the crazy, and I kept wondering why he was friends with this crew. I mean, what are the benefits of being a member of the "Mad Hatters"(Yes, I named them, and I think it is a cool name, so deal)?? I wondered if they only went to basketball games (the cheapest tickets) or if they also frequented hockey and football games too? Ultimately, I look forward to "Where's Waldo" spotting them on TV during a game. Only then will I know for sure that I was right about their eccentricities being purposeful. Throw them in with gorilla guy, and it seems that weird outfits (that can nearly pass for normal so that they just look REALLY crazy away from the stadiums and arenas) are the price of 15 minutes (or seconds, or jumbo tron minutes) of fame these days. To tell you the truth, I miss when crazy clothes meant Halloween, an awkward walk of shame, a theme party, or a homeless person. At least then I knew where I stood.
